Choosing your Canva domain verification date

Verifying a domain is the point of no return in a Canva Enterprise rollout. It is what gives you control of the accounts on that domain, and it is what triggers Canva's notification email to every user on it. Everything before it is reversible. Nothing after it is.

Part of Setting up Canva Enterprise: how the rollout works, a guide from Refuel Creative for organisations moving to Canva Enterprise.

When this applies: Once your user list is signed off and your internal communication is approved, and before you touch DNS.

Short answer: the verification date is the only date that really matters. Choose it deliberately.

Canva offers no scheduling guidance at all. The following is ours, from running these migrations.

  • Avoid verifying on a Thursday or Friday, or the day before a public holiday. DNS can take up to 72 hours to propagate, and the notification email will land in every inbox on your domain. You want your helpdesk staffed for the 48 hours afterwards, not away.

  • If you have several domains, do them one at a time, roughly a week apart. Verifying all of them at once turns several manageable support waves into one large one. It also means that if something goes wrong, it goes wrong for one business unit rather than all of them.

  • Keep it well clear of a campaign launch, a results announcement, or any peak production period. Your heaviest Canva users are usually your creative and marketing teams, and they are the least able to absorb a login change mid-deadline.

  • Verify before your current Canva plan renews, not after. Existing subscriptions can attract a refund, but a plan that auto-renews mid-migration is money you are unlikely to recover.

  • Once a 30 day window is running, avoid changing your login settings. People will already have made decisions based on what you told them, and changing the rules underneath them creates support load and mistrust.

What must be done before this date

  • Your user list reviewed and signed off.
  • Your own communication to staff written, approved and scheduled to land first.
  • Helpdesk cover arranged for the two days after.
  • Your login setting decided.
