Meta billing for new ad accounts
When launching a new Meta ad account, you may notice multiple small invoices processed on a single day. This is a standard security measure by Meta for all new advertisers. This guide explains why this happens and when your billing will consolidate into larger, less frequent charges.
Why you are seeing multiple small charges
Meta uses a trust based billing system. Instead of billing at the end of the month, Meta charges your payment method whenever your ad spend reaches a specific "Payment Threshold".
-
New Account Security: Brand new accounts are assigned a very low initial threshold, often starting between $2 and $25. Meta does this to verify that the credit card is valid and to prevent fraudulent activity.
-
High Frequency: If your daily ad spend is higher than your current threshold, Meta will charge your card multiple times in a single day. This generates a separate invoice for each charge.
-
The GST Factor: Meta adds 10% GST to your billing threshold in Australia. For example, a $40 threshold will result in a $44 charge to your card, which often leads to odd numbered invoice amounts.
When will the invoices consolidate?
The flurry of small charges is strictly temporary. As your account makes successful payments, Meta's system registers a positive trust signal and automatically unlocks higher billing tiers.
-
The Timeline: It typically takes 2 to 4 weeks of consistent, successful payments to reach larger billing thresholds like $500 or $1000.
-
The Progression: Your billing limit will gradually increase in stages (for example: $25 > $50 > $100 > $250 > $500).
What happens next?
Our team actively monitors your billing settings and will manually request threshold increases as rapidly as Meta allows.
The most important thing you and your finance team can do is ensure your bank does not flag these frequent, small charges as suspicious. If a payment declines, Meta will reset the account trust score. This will significantly delay our ability to reach your preferred $500 to $1000 billing threshold.
