Meta ads image & video specifications guide
To ensure your campaigns look great and perform well across Facebook and Instagram, we need high-quality images and videos. Different placements (like the News Feed, Stories and Reels) require different sizes to display correctly.
Below are the standard sizes, formats and best practices we recommend you supply for your campaigns.
Image ad specifications
For static image ads, we recommend providing assets in the following sizes to ensure maximum coverage across all Meta placements.
1. Square (recommended for feeds & carousels)
The most versatile format. It performs exceptionally well on both Facebook and Instagram feeds.
-
Resolution: 1080 x 1080 pixels
-
Aspect ratio: 1:1
-
File types: JPG or PNG
2. Vertical (recommended for mobile feeds)
Takes up more screen space on mobile devices, capturing higher attention.
-
Resolution: 1080 x 1350 pixels
-
Aspect ratio: 4:5
-
File types: JPG or PNG
3. Full portrait (Stories & Reels)
Essential for immersive, full-screen mobile experiences.
-
Resolution: 1080 x 1920 pixels
-
Aspect ratio: 9:16
-
File types: JPG or PNG
Video ad specifications
Video is a powerful tool for engagement. Please provide high-resolution source files without black bars (letterboxing).
1. Square or vertical (feeds)
-
Resolution: 1080 x 1080 pixels (1:1) OR 1080 x 1350 pixels (4:5)
-
File types: MP4 or MOV
-
Recommended length: 15 seconds or less is ideal for maintaining viewer attention.
-
Max file size: 4GB
2. Full portrait (Stories & Reels)
-
Resolution: 1080 x 1920 pixels (9:16)
-
File types: MP4 or MOV
-
Recommended length: 5 to 15 seconds.
Best practices for supplying assets
-
Keep text minimal: While Meta no longer penalises ads with high text density, images with less than 20% text overlay tend to perform much better. Put your main message in the ad copy, not on the image itself.
-
Mind the "safe zones" for Stories/Reels: When designing 9:16 assets, leave roughly 250 pixels at the top and 340 pixels at the bottom free of essential text or logos. This prevents them from being covered by the app's interface (like the profile icon or "Swipe Up" text).
-
Highest quality possible: Always send us the highest resolution files available. Avoid heavily compressed images or videos.
-
Show your brand early: For videos, make sure your brand or logo is visible within the first 3 seconds.
